Growing Heart Farm

Growing Heart Farm is a small, diversified vegetable farm run by Marisa Barone & Ian Nichols. We specialize in year-round greens production in the Harlem Valley of New York. We grow nutrient dense food on 2.5 acres with two high-tunnels, without the use of any chemicals or petroleum-based fertilizers. Our priority as small farmers is to sustain and build the health of the land by producing nutritious food for our community using regenerative methods.

We are a regenerative farm following organic standards towards Organic certification. We intensively rotate our crops, extensively cover crop parts of the farm not immediately in production, and remineralize our soils, replenishing the nutrients and biology each year with strictly OMRI-approved amendments. We use a walk-behind BCS tractor and power harrow for ground prep, which has a lighter impact on soil life and structure than a conventional rototiller. We interplant small sections of flowering herbs like tulsi into our production area throughout the season to steward pollinators and favor working by hand and with hand tools whenever possible.
